Psychopharmacologic (Medication) Therapies at the Wilkins Center

Medication will not cure an eating disorder or a psychiatric condition, but it can help keep symptoms under control.  Your treatment may involve medication, therapy, or both.  There are several different types of medications for various conditions.  The doctors at the Wilkins Center will discuss the ones that are the most appropriate ones for you.  They will educate you about the possible side effects and let you know how long it will take before the medication is working adequately.  Frequently, it takes time for medication to build up in your system before you begin to feel better.  Additionally, because everyone is different and every medication works differently, it may take a few attempts to determine the best medication for you.  Further, it is common for medication needs to change over time.  Our doctors are well-informed about new medications and are involved in research in this promising treatment field.  They will work closely with you and monitor your medications to ensure that you receive the most appropriate prescription at all times.
